About Paegwan

Our Story
During the Joseon Dynasty, storytellers held the title Paegwan (패관), responsible for transcribing everyday life in the Korean kingdom. Many of these stories favored prose over traditional poetry, leading the King's Court to disqualify them as official documents. These lifelong scribblings, however, became incredibly popular amongst the public, getting compiled into soul-stirring anthologies of literary miscellany.

Here, the Paegwan tradition has endured and adapted to the storytelling mediums of the today. Through a combination of writing, photography, and video, this modern miscellany revives the spirit of our ancestors by centering the culture, lives, and art of the Korean-American community.
